For those who can take in one of these program days, it may be helpful for you to know that September 11 will focus on Saints Vincent and Louise, and September 25 on Saint Elizabeth Seton.

Our experience of Sabbath as a day of rest and relaxation has been almost totally lost in the busy-ness of our task-oriented lives. Yet the sense of Sabbath, as spiritual leisure, is needed today in our hurried, time-starved world. This day will help us explore how everyday moments can be transformed into Sabbath moments and how we can know sacredness in our everyday lives. The day will include time for Sabbath living, reflection and sharing.

Are you ready for an opportunity to move away from the busyness of life, to reflect, relax, pray or just be?

This Saturday offers us an opportunity to enjoy such a day on a beautiful, relatively wild island off Terence Bay. A boat will transport us to Mahar’s Island (site of the sinking of the S.S. Atlantic) where we will spend the day walking the trails, exploring the beaches, resting, reflecting and praying, surrounded by God’s unspoiled nature.

Bring your lunch, snacks etc. and pray for a fine day.

In collaboration with a local sea kayaking operation (East Coast Outfitters) we offer this exciting adventure in nature, a day for beginners and expert paddlers alike. The guides are professionally certified to work with all skill levels. Before leaving the dock on the shores of Terence Bay, your guide will assist you in selecting a boat and gear to meet your specific needs. After a period of instruction you and your guide and companions will set out on a route through scenic coastal bays and inlets allowing the richness, depth and beauty of the moment to speak to your heart. The last hour of the day will be spent sharing some of our reflections as we sit around the fire.

Group Spiritual Direction is an opportunity for spiritual deepening and community support in our relationship with God. Like individual spiritual direction, group direction helps us recognize and articulate the action of God in our lives. In a group setting we become aware of God’s ways as we hear one another speak of God’s presence and action in each one’s life. Come enjoy a small group of journeyers and delight in the manifestation of God in our midst.

I’m sure you’ve seen this slogan encouraging good food choices. That’s not today’s focus! Rather, we will be looking at living right in another way: right relations, the foundation of just and peaceful lives; indeed, of a just society and a peaceful world. The day will provide an opportunity to examine your relationships with God, others, yourself, and to reflect on their significance in the bigger picture.

The sea is alive in mystery and healing. Whatever the situation the sea knows, and from her graciousness, moves us to peace and a quiet spirit. We will go to the ocean to experience what she has to teach us, then come together to the Centre to share her wisdom.

What do we do when we experience winter in our souls? How do we find peace and acceptance? Come, and together we will examine others experience of this painful time. Then we will, through prayer and discussion, hopefully be sent on our way, equipped with tools that will lead us to the peace and acceptance we seek.

This phrase from the Book of Ecclesiastes and the words that follow are often read at times of transition and when moving on to another stage in life. Maybe you can hum the tune, so popular in years gone by. These words focus this autumn weekend calling us to explore the various seasons of living and where we are right now. Who knows what we might discover in the light of the Harvest moon!

We are fortunate in Nova Scotia to have had outstanding women in politics and the arts, and in advocacy for peace and justice. We are equally blessed to have Nova Scotia/Atlantic filmmakers who have captured their lives in film. This program will consist of viewing a film, followed by reflection and sharing about the film, and and how it might touch us in our own lives. The running time of each film is close to an hour, so there will be two films with discussion each day. You may take in either or both days.
