We are fortunate in Nova Scotia to have had outstanding women in politics and the arts, and in advocacy for peace and justice. We are equally blessed to have Nova Scotia/Atlantic filmmakers who have captured their lives in film. This program will consist of viewing a film, followed by reflection and sharing about the film, and and how it might touch us in our own lives. The running time of each film is close to an hour, so there will be two films with discussion each day. You may take in either or both days.
October 2 – Muriel Duckworth Practising Peace – produced by Patricia Kipping and Why Women Run (for political office) – by Meredith Ralston
October 16 – Portia White: Think on Me – produced by Sylvia Hamilton and A Sigh and a Wish: The Helen Creighton Story – produced by Donna Davies.

Just think of the changes you have experienced during your lifetime! Today’s program has particular significance for those at a turning point in life through age, retirement, illness, loss of a loved one. It invites you to explore these changes and learn more about your reaction to them: do you welcome them? do you shrink from them? or are you somewhere in-between? There will be time for personal reflection and sharing of the wisdom you have gained in your life journey.

Michael Moorwood speaks of an everywhere God. Mary Southard encourages us to borrow the Beloved’s eyes to find this everywhere God. I believe that there is a direct link between the photographs we take and our spirituality. There is something that draws us to the images we take, and upon reflection, these images often move us into something more that we can’t always articulate.
Come capture what your eyes and camera can record and look deeper and see where that leads you.
Group Spirituality

Group Spiritual Direction
September 19, October 17, November 7, 2012 (Wednesday)
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Fee: $50
Facilitator: Evelyn Williams, SC
Group Spiritual Direction is an opportunity for spiritual deepening and community support in our relationship with God. Like individual spiritual direction, group direction helps us recognize and articulate the action of God in our lives. In a group setting we become aware of God’s ways as we hear one another speak of God’s presence and action in each one’s life. Come enjoy a small group of journeyers and delight in the manifestation of God in our midst.
Living Authentic Self, Leading from Within

October 19 – 20, 2012 (Friday 7p.m. ending at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday)
Fee: $60
Facilitators: Becky McKenna
All of us are called to bring true self to birth and to gift the world with the essence of who we are becoming.
Drawing upon the work of Parker Palmer this retreat will invite participants to reflect on the seeds of authentic self that each of us is responsible for bringing to life for the merit of the world.
Our time together will follow the “Circle of Trust” approach funded by Parker Palmer and based on Quaker practices. The process is designed to create a confidential and trustworthy space so that people can access the voice of their soul.
During the retreat we will evoke wisdom through direct experiences in nature and by way of poetry, scripture, wisdom stories and video clips.

Are you ready for an opportunity to move away from the busyness of life, to reflect, relax, pray or just be?
This Saturday offers us an opportunity to enjoy such a day on a beautiful, relatively wild island off Terence Bay. A boat will transport us to Mahar’s Island (site of the sinking of the S.S. Atlantic) where we will spend the day walking the trails, exploring the beaches, resting, reflecting and praying, surrounded by God’s unspoiled nature.

What can we do to be makers of peace and justice in our world? What might a non-violent world be like, and what might we do to bring this about?
If these are some of your questions, come explore them with others as we move towards visioning a world of non-violence and moving together to bring this about.
Choosing to Forgive

October 27, 2012 (Saturday)
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Fee: $30
Facilitator: Maria Sutherland, SC
Forgiveness doesn’t happen in a moment; it isn’t easy; it may take a long time; we can’t really do it until we are ready. But it is a choice we can work at getting ready to make; it is a process, one we are all invited to engage in as a core element of our call to be disciples. Today we will explore what forgiveness means and what it doesn’t mean. We will examine our own blocks to forgiveness and pray to be ready to move forward on our journey of forgiveness and healing.
Rediscovering the Word of Life

“You shall love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul and all your might…hear therefore, O Israel, and keep these words in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them….” Words become familiar and often lose their “punch “when spoken over and over. Let’s listen more closely to these words of life and see what we can do to live out of their promise.
Invitations for a Lifetime – Henri Nouwen on the Spiritual Journey

October 30, 2012 (Tuesday)
November 13, 2012 (Tuesday)
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Fee: $30 per day (includes lunch), $55 for two days
Facilitator: Lorraine d’Entremont, SC
During his lifetime, Henri Nouwen (1932-1996) wrote numerous spiritual books and mentored many in the spiritual life. Since his death, some of his students have worked at gathering his principles of spiritual formation into books. One of these is Spiritual Formation: Following the Movements of the Spirit (2010) by Michael Christiansen and Rebecca Laird. It outlines and describes spiritual invitations and movements through our life stages, and offers material for reflection and conversation. This book will be our resource and guide for these two program days, which will include group time and time for reflection and prayer. You will need to purchase – or borrow! – the book. You may buy it through your usual book suppliers, or we can help you find a place where you can purchase it. Register for this program early enough to allow yourself time to get the book before you come.
