We all live and relate in many social structures or systems, e.g. family, business, parish, town, workplace, government, committees and organizations, to name a few. Sometimes these social systems do not function as well as we would wish, or can get just plain messy.
In this weekend retreat, you will be guided to examine how you think, feel and act in a system in which you are involved, and to discern how God may be moving you to act for the betterment of the structure and those affected by it, including yourself! The retreat will consist of some presentation and group time, but also will have substantial time for personal reflection.
Group Spiritual Direction

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Facilitator: Evelyn Williams, SC
Group Spiritual Direction is an opportunity for spiritual deepening and community support in our relationship with God. Like individual spiritual direction, group direction helps us recognize and articulate the action of God in our lives. In a group setting we become aware of God’s ways as we hear one another speak of God’s presence and action in each one’s life. Come enjoy a small group of journeyers and delight in the manifestation of God in our midst.

What makes a life event a crisis? Most definitions would suggest that it is a term meaning ‘a testing time’ or an ‘emergency event’. Some characteristics of a crisis are that the event is unexpected; it is seen as a threat to important goals; it is the point at which an old system can no longer be maintained. It is, therefore, a ‘crucial point’, a point for decision. Where in your life have you experienced a crisis? What helped you survive it? How did it help you grow? Today is a time to explore these questions together.

Rumi was born in Afganistan in 1207. He was a devoted Muslim. His poetry emerges from an uncommon spiritual depth. It is simple, yet contains an unusual perception of the Creator and all creatures. We will examine and pray Rumi’s words and tell each other how we are moved (or not) by the words of this passionate lover of our God.

As the leaves finish turning colour and drop from the trees, we are invited to reflect on the invitations for turning that are wanting to happen within us and in our way of being in the world. We will make use of a variety of things to help us deepen our reflection : scripture, poems, fairy tales, music, dance, silence, sharing.

As we anticipate Advent and Christmas, this retreat is an opportunity to come apart and gently explore the mystery of the Incarnation.
