10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Fee: (includes lunch) $30 per day, $55 for two days (recommended)
Facilitator: Lorraine d’Entremont, SC

We all experience change in our lives, and most of us have known times when that change, whether arising from a voice within or prompted by something external, amounted to a conversion or transformation. You may be in such a moment right now! While we know we have to negotiate the way through our own conversion journey, we can draw inspiration from others who have walked this path before us. Saints Vincent de Paul, Louise de Marillac and Elizabeth Ann Seton, key figures in the Sisters of Charity tradition, are striking examples of persons whose lives embodied change and transformation. This program will explore conversion themes in their lives and invite participants to engage their own conversion themes. Program days will include input, personal reflection/prayer time, and group conversation.

Contemplation in Action

Contemplation in Action

October 4, 2011 (Tuesday)
October 25, 2011 (Tuesday)
10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Fee: (includes lunch) $40 per day (includes book), $55 for two days (recommended)
Facilitator: Lorraine d’Entremont, SC

The focus of this program is the personal and spiritual journey required to ground action that is compassionate, just and prophetic. The book Contemplation in Action, 2006, by Richard Rohr and friends, will serve as a springboard for participants to consider how they integrate action and contemplation in their own lives. Edwina Gately, Daniel Berrigan and Walter Wink are among the contributors to the book. Program days will consist of time for reading short selections from the book, personal reflection/prayer, and group conversation. Books available on site.

Where is God in this Mess

Where is God in this Mess

A Weekend Retreat
October 14-16, 2011
Begins at 7:00 p.m. Friday and ends with lunch Sunday noon.
Fee: $120 with room and board
$ 60 commuter (includes lunch Saturday and Sunday)
Facilitator: Lorraine d’Entremont, SC

We all live and relate in many social structures or systems, e.g. family, business, parish, town, workplace, government, committees and organizations, to name a few. The list could go on. Sometimes these social systems do not function as well as we would wish, or can get just plain messy. In this weekend retreat, you will be guided to examine how you feel, think and act in a system in which you are involved, and to see how God may be moving you to act for the betterment of the structure and those affected by it, including yourself! The retreat will consist of some presentation and group time, but will have substantial time for personal reflection.

We are fortunate in Nova Scotia to have had outstanding women in cultural and political arenas, and in advocacy for peace and justice. We are equally blessed to have Nova Scotia/Atlantic filmmakers who have captured their lives in film. This program will consist of viewing a film, followed by reflection and sharing about the film and how it might touch us in our own lives. The running time of each film is close to an hour, so there will be two films with discussion each day.
November 8 – Muriel Duckworth Practising Peace – Patricia Kipping and Why Women Run (for political office) – Meredith Ralston
November 22 – Portia White: Think on Me – Sylvia Hamilton and A Sigh and a Wish: The Helen Creighton Story – Donna Davies
